Certification
Articulated Credit: We’ve worked out an agreement with Ivy Tech for articulated credit in the event that a student would like to eventually pursue a formal degree. In that case, when they enroll at Ivy Tech, any articulated credit earned at the ITC would then be applied toward their chosen degree program. Meanwhile, while earning articulated credit for lab hours at the ITC, a student does not have to actually enroll at Ivy Tech, therefore avoiding prerequisite courses required by Ivy Tech.
Career Development Certificates: Ivy Tech has developed five Career Development Certificates in the areas of Electrical Systems, Electrical Motor Control, Mechanical Systems, Fluid Power, and Programmable Controllers. Courses/modules are applicable to either a technical certificate and/or associate degree in industrial technology.
Certificate of Completion: Also, Ivy Tech will award and present to the students a Certificate of Completion for each Learning Activity Packet (LAP) completed at the ITC.
Ivy Tech Certification Incumbent Worker Training Program
Ivy Tech State College has an excellent reputation for providing technical training in the State of Indiana. Our technical training is valued for many reasons, but especially for its state-of-the-art curriculum delivered by highly trained faculty. The college uses advisory committees to stay abreast of the changing needs of the workplace. Associate degrees and technical certificates are available in many programs. The college prides itself on being the recognized provider of technical training for the State of Indiana.
Ivy Tech State College is excited about being a part of the unique industrial training program located at the Scott County Lifelong Learning Center. The college's mission is to enable individuals to develop to their fullest potential and to support the economic development of Indiana. Ivy Tech provides both credit and noncredit workforce education courses to enable the state's employers to be effective, productive, and competitive nationally and internationally. The uniqueness of the Scott County Industrial Training Center's program, as well as their partnership with Ivy Tech, makes the training center an ideal candidate for IWT dollars.
Pre/Post Assessment
One of the unique components of our industrial training program is that there is no pre-designated point in the curriculum where students must begin their training. A pre-test is administered to every student in the program to ascertain their current knowledge and skill level - which in turn determines the most advantageous starting point for that particular individual. The post-test is a combination of both written and hands-on evaluations. The written test requires an 80% or higher to pass. The hands-on portion includes a demonstration of tasks, which requires a 100% proficiency.
Transferability
The modules of training offered for the incumbent workers are noncredit, but they are noncredit for a very specific reason. It is our intent to provide skills to students in the most time efficient and cost effective way possible. By offering the courses on a noncredit basis, students avoid having to take unrelated, general education classes they would otherwise be required to take. However, a "crosswalk" is provided to each student that describes which learning activity packets, and in what combinations, may be articulated to college credit. For example, two courses currently offered at Ivy Tech State College statewide use the Amatrol curriculum and are available for credit. The course, Basic Electricity, requires completion of seven learning activity packets; and the Fluid Power Basics course requires the completion of ten learning activity packets. The availability of college credit, upon request by the worker, allows transferability to other colleges not only across the State of Indiana, but also across the country.
Another indication of the transferability is the fact that the same process is used as required by a Certificate of Technical Achievement (CTA): 1) as mentioned, both a pre and post assessment are administered; and 2) each participant is given a certificate of completion from Ivy Tech (sample in packet). The certificate includes the Ivy Tech seal, the learning activity packet title, and the signatures of college personnel and the instructor. Most importantly, listed on the back of the certificate are the skills obtained for that particular packet, which enables the transferability process.
" Hands-On"
A large portion of the training for each incumbent worker involves hands-on work in the center's training lab. Each student is assessed upon completion of the learning activity packet and required to demonstrate mastery of a specific set of skills for that packet.
" Wide Acceptance"
