| Industrial Training Overview
The Scott County Partnership is dedicated to the concept of working together as a community to create a high quality of life and a robust economy for the people of Scott County. With this goal in mind, the City of Scottsburg conducted a “Skills Survey” in 2001 to better understand the human resource needs of employers in Scott County. The data received and analyzed as a result of this survey identified industrial maintenance skills as being high on the “wish list” of many local manufacturers.
The Scott County Partnership was fortunate to receive an $808,000 grant through the 2002 Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations Bill with the help of Ninth District congressman Baron Hill. These dollars were used to purchase state-of-the-art equipment to provide industrial maintenance training and skills on the systems needed most by local manufacturing business: 1) electrical; 2) mechanical drives; 3) motor controls; 4) hydraulics; 5) pneumatics; and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
The curriculum has the capability of providing training at the beginner, intermediate and advanced skill levels using an “open entry/open exit” system – meaning that there are not set semesters, hours or terms and a student attends anytime that is convenient to their schedule during operating hours. A student works at his or her own pace and a fully qualified instructor is always present to guide and assist as needed.
